Ever since the watching the Lion King as a child I always wanted to visit Africa for a real safari experience. The Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Preserves, famous for its number of lions, the wildebeest migration and the people who call this region home. This 1,510 square kilometer reserve is home to over 95 mammal species and 570 recorded bird species. The best part is that there are so many ways to experience the beauty of Maasai Mara.
One of the most beautiful views is from above in a hot air balloon. Leave in the early morning and catch the sun rising over the African plains for an unforgettable view of the Mara. For a more personal experience consider a horseback safari which allows you to get closer than ever before. You can always opt for the traditional game drive safari where you can experience the wildlife in its natural habitat.
On your trip you’ll want to visit at least one Maasai village to experience the cultures and ways of life of its people. The Maasai have made their living raising cattle and farming the desert and scrub lands. Despite pressures from the Kenyan government to abandon their semi-nomadic lifestyle, the Maasai have remained true to their age-old customs.
