Exploring The Great Wall

Marked as one of the Seven Wonders of The World, The Great Wall of China certainly can be deemed great for many reasons. First off, the wall winds up and down through grasslands, desserts, mountains and plateaus. It stretches approximately 8,851.8km (5,500 miles) from east to west China and has been marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the past twenty-five years.

If its sheer brilliance through the lands of China isn’t much to get you into exploring The Great Wall, than the history behind it will. The wall was constructed many moons ago across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese Empire against militia or nomadic groups intrusions. The wall was also deemed as border control, a transportation corridor and acted as a defense against intruders. As a portion of The Wall still stands tall, there isn’t a wonder in the world as to why people walk through the arcs of the wall still to this day.

Walking along the wall will take your breath away, no matter which section you stop at. There are many notable spots along The Wall that offer breathtaking views of the mountains, valleys and colonial buildings. One of the most profound sections of the wall is where The Ming Great Wall climbs an extremely steep slope. Running 11km longs, 5-8 meters high, and 6 meters low, here is where you will stand 980 meters above sea level, around the 67 watchtowers. Jinshanling is certainly a breathtaking spot. And so whether you stand here, on The West Pass, North Pass or Pass of The Great Wall, you’ll stand amongst tourists who want to take in the beauty of China all the while filling their own history books as you all stand along The Wall.
