Perusing Through The Piazza

The Piazza del Duomo is Milan’s famous city square. Not only does this picturesque piazza showcase its brilliance in of The Duomo di Milano (The Milan Cathedral), Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and The Royal Place. A piazza, for all of those you are unaware of the term, is a large public square or marketplace normally found through the rustically, rugged hills of Italy. As you walk through this piazza you walk through history, beauty and perfection anywhere you turn.

The piazza was constructed way back in 1859 when the famous Duomo di Milano was close to its almost 500 year construction period. Because of the monstrosity and beauty that the Duomo exudes, Italian architect, Giuseppe Mengoni was awarded the opportunity to design the piazza around the Duomo. After 20 years of hard work, beautiful work, the piazza, and its mini historical town was complete.

Now, as you stand in the middle of the piazza you’ll be enthralled in the ancient gothic façade of the Duomo, the statue standing tall in the middle of the square of Vittorio Emanuele II, the five story glass-vaulted arcade of The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II along with the symmetrical Plaazzo Meridionale, the sophisticated galleria of boutique shops lining the square and the plethora of restaurants to indulge in.

Many locals and tourists peruse through the piazza on a daily basis to take in the beauty of the sights and be apart of history as they stand in front of some of the most magnificent buildings in Milan. Milan, a city known for its sophisticated ways certainly has outdone itself in creating one of the best piazza’s known to man.
