Take a Stroll To Brooklyn

You’re standing there. Wondering what’s on the other side. But you can’t seem to catch a taxi, or you don’t feel like heading down below on the subway to get to the other side. And so, you man-up and take a walk over The Brooklyn Bridge. To think about it, this is many peoples way of commuting on a daily basis to get into the city, especially during those hot summer months.

As you embark on your journey across The Brooklyn Bridge there are few facts that will tickle your fancy as you proceed along it. Firstly, it spans 1,595,5 feet long, and it was deemed as the longest suspension bridge from its creation 129 years ago to 1903. Originally deemed as The New York and Brooklyn Bridge and then as The East River Bridge, the name, The Brooklyn Bridge sort of stuck back in 1867 when a letter to the editor of The Brooklyn Daily Eagle developed the name. Of course it’s not everyday a name sticks from reading an editorial letter, but this one couldn’t have worked any more perfectly.

Originally designed by John Augustus Roebling, the bridge supports cyclists, walkers, runners, and cars down below it. I found that one of the beautiful things about The Brooklyn Bridge is that the walking bridge is all for you. It’s not like The Golden Gate Bridge where cars are driving by as you’re walking in the designated spot, nope, it’s better than that, as you have the whole bridge to yourself to explore the beauty of the boroughs of New York. And the views, well they certainly are one for the storybooks, you can’t get any better views of the city and surrounding areas from any other vantage point in New York.
